Hello Grade ¾ families, We had a wonderful week of learning, welcoming the snowy weather and gearing up for Winter. It was lovely to see so many of you at conferences last night and this morning. Your insight and collaboration are invaluable and help us create the best possible learning environment for our students.  We explored the Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework, the medicine wheel, as we learned about the four domains and built a classroom framework to track our year. It was a beautiful art collaboration.  Learning Intentions: Grade 3: I can describe solid, liquid, and gas states of matter in terms of the properties of shape and volume.   Reminders and Updates We had our first TRS Family Friday, where we re-grouped into small classroom communities and tried out new activities. This will continue throughout the year. Swimming is next week! We are looking forward to it. We will be swimming at Sir Winston Churchill Pool. We are still in need of volunteers for the school, please let us know if you can join. Home communication folders are in backpacks today. This is an opportunity for your students to share their amazing work with you. Attached is a co-created rubric that was made in collaboration with the students, it is meant to guide self-evaluation and inform next steps and goal setting. We will be using these frequently throughout the year across subjects.  We look forward to sharing what we think is “art” around the house. Here is a reminder from yesterday’s e-mail: Today your child is coming home with another small assignment. They have been asked to think of and find an object from home that they think is ...

Hello families, The Grade 3 and 4’s had another exciting week of learning. Learning Intentions: Grade 3:  I can analyze bases and affixes for meaning. Grade 4:  I can examine morphemes in words to determine meaning. We continued our morphology lessons by exploring the “doubling rule”. Students practiced adding various suffixes (-er, -ed, -est, -ing, -ly, -ful) to base words that changed their spelling depending on their specific phonemic/morphological rules. We learned about the doubling rule, where we double the last consonant prior to adding a suffix if it follows certain morphological rules. We spent a lot of time this week working on our narrative writing skills. We used a photo prompt to develop a story that has a character, a setting, and a problem and solution. Together, we created a rubric to improve our writing. We look forward to sharing our writing piece with you soon. Learning Intentions: Grade 3:  I can round natural numbers up to 1000 Grade 4:  I can ro...
