Hello families,

This week was short but we managed to pack a lot of learning in. The best part was ending the week with our school Terry Fox Assembly and Run. As a community we ran 100s of laps, cheering each other on along the way. We noticed exceptional sportsmanship, leadership, and a lot of smiles. See some photos below.

Learning Intentions:

Grade 3:

  • I can identify the place value of each digit in natural number

  • I can express natural numbers using words and numerals

Grade 4:

  • I can identify the place value  of each digit in a number including tenths and hundredths

We were excited to learn about decimals this week. We began our learning by watching an Olympic swim race and then noticing that all of the times began with the same number- so how is the winner decided? Well, we quickly decided that decimals are important! Next, we took our learning to PE class and timed each other doing some football drills, sharing our times to include tenths and hundredths. We have been practicing naming numbers, and using the word AND where we notice a decimal. We will continue to build our understanding throughout the year, but we are off to a great start.

Thank you for completing the Chasing Vermeer family activity sheet. We continue this learning, so let your student know it’s not too late to send it back. Thank you for sharing these stories, they help us build connections between personal experiences and texts.

We also completed our art for the art cards project this week- they are beautiful!
