This week students read and learned about the great Canadian artist Ted Harrison! We read “The Northern Alphabet” and took on his challenge in the beginning of the book: to use the picture and sentence from each page as the beginning to a new story. We worked on developing and planning the parts of a story on a story map, writing a rough draft, editing for grammar, spelling and punctuation. When we return, we will make some Ted Harrison inspired art to accompany our stories and complete our final copies.
We engaged in some literacy games with our reading groups this week- one of our favorites being the “Chunking” game where we competed to assemble words.
