February 6, 2026

This was a busy week, filled with geometry, planting, art with our buddies, and a lot of growth in our volleyball skills!

Learning Intentions:

  • Grade 3:

    • I can describe the geometric properties of regular and irregular polygons.

    • I can sort polygons according to geometric properties and describe the sorting rule.

    • I can classify polygons as regular or irregular, using geometric properties.

  • Grade 4:

    • I can investigate geometric properties.

    • I can identify relationships between the sides of a polygon, including parallel, equal length, or perpendicular, by measuring.

    • I can identify relationships between angles at vertices of a polygon, including equal, supplementary, and complementary, by measuring.

We have learned about geometric properties, angles, shapes, and have encountered a lot of new math vocabulary. We have learned about the different types of angles, lines, and the ways they can come together to form polygons. Grade 4s dusted off the protractors and measured angles, learning about complementary and supplementary angles. Next week we will begin to demonstrate our learning through an art piece.

Learning Intentions:

  • Grade 3:

    • I can explain and discuss how plants use their senses to respond to sensory stimuli, including water, food, temperature, and light.

  • Grade 4:

    • I can identify the external structures of plants (roots, stems, leaves, flowers) and relate them to their functions.

    • I can discuss how plants detect sensory stimuli such as light, gravity, temperature, and touch which will help them grow and survive.

We would like to take credit for the warm weather, as we took it upon ourselves to do some gardening this week! We began a science project called “Plant A Seed and See What Grows”. After reviewing the plant life cycle and needs of plants, we learned about germination and were each given a mystery seed. We made beautiful scientific drawings with labels and made some predictions about germination. We will be using our science eyes to keep a close eye on germination and then we will be printing.

Important Dates:

  • Feb 12, Feb 13- No School

  • Feb 16- No School

  • Valentine’s Day- If your student wishes to bring cards to school we will have an exchange on Wednesday Feb 11. Please bring enough cards for the whole class (we have 20 students) and no food or treats please.

  • Grade 4s, please return ski forms on Monday

Ways to Continue the Learning:

  • Go for a walk in this beautiful weather and hunt for different types of lines and angles in nature. We have developed a keen eye when moving around the school.

  • Practice telling time on an analog clock at home! We have been challenging ourselves during morning meetings to identify the time on given clocks and how it relates to our day.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Jocelyn
