Hello Room 2 families,


We had a wonderful two short weeks, cheering on Canada during the Olympics, working on our Polygon Art project, and researching historical figures for Black History Month.


Learning Intentions:

  • Grade 3:

    • I can describe the geometric properties of regular and irregular polygons.

    • I can sort polygons according to geometric properties and describe the sorting rule.

    • I can classify polygons as regular or irregular, using geometric properties.

  • Grade 4:

    • I can investigate geometric properties.

    • I can identify relationships between the sides of a polygon, including parallel, equal length, or perpendicular, by measuring.

    • I can identify relationships between angles at vertices of a polygon, including equal, supplementary, and complementary, by measuring.


Last week, we were able to get outside and measure angles that we found in nature. We also began an art project to demonstrate our understanding of polygons, lines, and angles. This week, we continued our Polygon Art project by identifying the type of polygons in our art and creating a legend to colour code them. Students also implemented their understanding of polygons with morning math challenges, using groups of polygons to make a larger polygon. Next week, the Grade 4s will continue their geometry learning by exploring triangles and quadrilaterals. The Grade 3s will begin multiplication and division.


Learning Intentions

  • Grade 3:

    • I can investigate and discuss how plants and animals respond to stimuli in their environments in order to survive.

  • Grade 4:

    • I can discuss how plants respond to sensory stimuli.

    • I can relate the external structures of plants to their functions.

    • I can compare external structures of various plants and animals in relation to function.

This week, students enjoyed planting their sprouts in soil. We took some time to jot down notices and wonders about how our seed has transformed in scientific drawings. We helped each other to plant our seeds and will continue to make observations as we notice changes. 


Learning Intentions:

    • I can create written texts for a variety of audiences and purposes.

  • I can create written texts using a variety of forms and structures.

  • I can use organizational processes, methods, or tools to support the creation of written texts.


After learning about non-fiction text features, students have been working on researching various historical figures for Black History Month. Students are using print resources to take notes, focusing on pulling key and relevant information. They will be using their notes to create newspaper reports, organizing their ideas into relevant sentences and paragraphs.


Ways to Continue Learning at Home:

  • Have your student share notable facts about their historical figure with you.

  • Practice repeated addition with your Grade 3 student to prepare for multiplication.

  • Use this digital resource to play tangram puzzles.


Reminders:

  • The Grade 3/4s will be leading our Pink Shirt Day assembly on Wednesday, February 25th at 9:45 AM. 

  • Sexual Health forms will be sent home Monday. These forms are opt-in. Please take some time to review them.

  • Report Cards go live Tuesday, February 24th.

  • March 3rd- Grade 4 Ski School

We had a busy week, welcoming the Fall Equinox, enjoying the brisk morning weather, and learning more about our role as treaty people as we discussed Treaty 7 Day on September 22.  We are enjoying our novel study- Chasing Vermeer. Today, Home Communication Folders have come with students and in it there is an activity to complete together. This is an opportunity to continue the learning at home through conversation, as well as give students a chance to share their writing with you.  We met with our buddy class, Ms. Axford’s 1/2 ‘s, twice this week. We are enjoying getting to know them better and showing how we can be leaders as we learn together.   Hello Grade ¾ families in Room 2, It was a short but beautiful week in our classroom. We have been getting to know each other, building connections and new friendships, reconnecting with familiar classmates, and creating our learning community. It was great to meet everyone at the Open House. If we have not yet connected, I look forward to doing so soon. One highlight from our first week was our hexagon art project. Students created colourful hexagons representing six unique things about themselves, their favourite things, and what they did over the summer. We then connected them to others’ hexagons to physically show all the similarities and connections we have to one another. It was such a powerful way for the class to see how much they have in common, and create a strong sense of community right from the start. We also did a STEM solo cup building challenge.   October 31, 2025 Hello Grade ¾ families, It was great to be back together again as a classroom community. We have been settling back into our routines and have been happy to see each other again. We spent time reviewing our learning of place value and representations of numbers during this short week. We reviewed it by playing a Jeopardy game. We also did a little bit of graphing today. Grade 4’s will be continuing to engage with decimals up to the hundredths place throughout the year, and Grade 3’s are continuing to master place value representations up to 100,000. Next, we will be moving into strategies for addition.  During our literacy time we continued our learning about the differences between fiction and non-fiction as we investigated vampire bats. We discussed how non-fiction texts, including videos, provide real information and use accurate pictures.
