Learning Intentions:
Grade 3:
I can recognize interpretations of multiplication and division in various contexts
Grade 4:
I can multiply and divide 3-digit natural numbers by 1-digit natural numbers, using standard algorithms
Students in Grade 3 have been applying their skills to solve word problems. In doing so, multiple steps are required- close reading, deciding on the appropriate operation, solving, and sharing our work. We will continue this next week.
Grade 4s added the standard algorithms for multiplication and division to their bank of strategies. Students are working hard and showing resilience as they try new strategies. We are going to continue to practice and work on deciphering and solving word problems.
Our writing is progressing to more consistently include intriguing paragraphs with topic sentences, supporting details, and closing sentences that inspire action or interest. This week, we responded to a picture prompt about bringing home a wild animal. Students were thoughtful to include supporting details and many used their inquiry skills to research as well. We also began the writing process to explain our science dioramas, being careful to include scientific vocabulary.
We managed to get out onto the land before (or just as) the weather turned. We searched for organisms and made scientific sketches of what we found. We shared these in a sharing circle. Yesterday we drew inspiration from our poem of the week, The Tree, to create a poem about one of our findings. These included a number of imaginative similes.
